Indonesia Kawah Ijen

Mount Ijen is situated at the far east of Java, Indonesia. The crater lake (Kawah) is recognised as the largest highly acidic crater lake in the world.

An active vent at the edge of the lake is a source of elemental sulfur, and supports a mining operation. Men carry loads up to 100 kg on their shoulders, 2 or 3 times a day down the mountain.
